The Pompano Beach Civic Association made History with a tour of eight historic properties that was open to the public on March 24, 2001. Five of the Pompano Beach Civic association members open their homes to the public on that date. The Pompano Beach Historic Association, which owns and operates the Kester cottages and the 555 Society, which operates the Firehouse Museum, agreed to participate. The First United Methodist Association which has begun the process to place its chapel on the Federal Register of Historic Places also participated. The tour started at the Kester
Cottage in Founders Park, next to the Firehouse
Museum. The city's first firehouse built in 1926. It has 2 fire
trucks. The original used until 1948 and the second used until the 70's.
The next property was the home located at 300 NE 4 Ave, known as The
"Cap Campbell" House Circa 1910. The current owners
Allan and Doris Price were very gracious to open the public to their
home. From this property we went to a The
"Bo Giddens House" Circa 1939 located at 305 NE 3rd
Street. The owner J. Kimball was a nice host giving every body a tour of
her home. She has done a terrific job restoring her property. On to nest property located at 410 NE Fifth Ave the "Austin House" Circa 1924. This is a Bungalow style 2 story house built of Dade County pine and then to the last home on the tour " The Horace Robinson House" located at 405 NE Fifth Ave. Built of Dade County pine in 1924 hold many surprises. It is the birthplace of Broward County's first symphony Society and the Opera Guild. At First a rather modest house, it was by the Robinson's during the 1930's to include a music room with a giant five stop German Votteler pipe organ, a billiard room, a library, a third bedroom and a 3 bathroom. This home is own by Lisa and Scott Allen. |
